BTA Online Workshop for Tennis Parents

Our BTA online work continues. Last week we ran a workshop for our players’ parents on various parenting styles, models of support and encouragement, which may contribute to more efficient cooperation between coaches, players and parents.

Below our sports psychologist Oriol Mercade shares with you the main details behind the workshop:

‘A videoconference was held with parents, in which it was explained to them that they can contribute tennis and competition to their children, at the level of values, self-growth, well-being, social skills and how that will have an impact for the rest of their lives so that they are aware that when they point their children to an academy that has a sports psychology department they are making an investment for the future of their children, which is much more than improving in tennis what we are looking for.

They were also thoughts on how they can help us make that possible, how to respond to perfectionism, insecurities, frustrations or fears and nerves of their children, and the types of parents that we usually meet in tennis were described.

Finally, space was left for parents to ask questions to the team of psychologists about conflictive situations that they did not know very well how to react.

We also took the opportunity to give advice on measures that we must take these difficult days locked up at home to maintain the mental well-being of the entire family, as well as maintaining good life habits.’

Stay safe & strong! Train at home!
